How Google Places Ruined Google Search Engine Disasters Maps For Organic Searches
November 24, 2010 by Mick · 4 Comments
Google you simply ruined Google by adding Google Places to all your organic searches. So Google figured out that people know what the 3 ads up the top and the multiple ads down the side of every Google search are and that large companies have paid to have their brand/title there. Well look at that, Google turned around to form an awful partnership with the Yellow Pages to verify businesses and place them before the fold on all searches with a location attached to it. Searching Gold Coast Pool Builders used to bring up 10 simple results, lets call them organic links to useless Gold Coast Pool Builder websites or articles explaining which Pool Builder on the Gold Coast to use. Now you get stuck with 5 or 6 Letters and businesses, which have been verified through 3rd party resources and the Yellow Pages before even a single organic link appears.
Its like taking a simple microwave with basic buttons, but never lets you down and then slapping on wheels, racing stripes, tv antenna, an LED torch and all numbers are now written in Japanese. I’ve come across so many people in the last 3 weeks that have complained about how Google have ruined their search engine. It used to be so simple! What happened to the KISS approach? Anyone could use it, it was’nt intimidating, nor was it hard to get the right results. Now you slapped in the face with what I’m going to call Fake Ads, businesses that are in particular area you may be searching before any real websites come up. My mother wouldn’t have the slightest now when searching for Adult Education Courses Melbourne or Victorian Gardening Tips. Google your too inconsistent, at times your showing 10 results per page plus AdSense, then you switch it up for 6 business places and 5 organic links, then 7 business places and 2 organic links. Make up your silly little minds.
Don’t get me wrong, live search is a beautiful thing to use, and I haven’t found a true use yet for the page preview but I can see the benefits except for when teenagers start Googling the wrong things for their age. From a Search Engine Optimisation perspective, the game has changed again and other search engines are starting to look good again… funny that! Bing was my mortal enemy 1 month ago, now I look at it and absolutely love its elegance, the intro page with the Wiki like information floating around the image… beautiful! Then you search and it gives you 10 results that represent your search criteria all in a matter of seconds. That is the goal, simple, elegant searching even though they ripped off the colours which to the eye look just like Google – Blue Organic Link, Black Excerpt Description and Green link. Yahoo mucked around with the way peopled searched a few years ago and it got them nowhere, I would say it took them so far out of the game that they will forever be stuck in the land of Bronze, maybe Silver if they get lucky!
To sum it all up, Google your one of the most innovative companies today… so be innovative enough to scrap your places and don’t show them on the “everything” tab, let there be just “web” search, “image” search then “everything else we could think of” search! Google you ruined Google with Google Places…!
